How To Prepare For Truck Driving School

Starting a new career as a truck driver can be challenging, but also very exciting and rewarding. But, before you can get out on the road, you need to go to truck driving school and get your Class A CDL. One of the most important things to do to make sure you are successful is to be prepared. STUDY FOR YOUR CDL PERMIT:

Study

Study for your CDL permit, and make sure you get it before coming to school at Witte Bros. Truck Driving School. When you enroll at Witte, one of the things we ask you to do is to get your CDL permit before your first day of class. This is because we want to get you into a truck and driving as soon as possible. But, to get your CDL permit you will have to take and pass a three-part written test. You can read our blog on how to study for your CDL permit here.

PACK ALL THE NECESSITIES:

Packing

Make sure you are packed with everything you need for truck driving school. It is important that you have everyday items packed, including bedding, food, toiletries, and weather appropriate clothing. You will also want to make sure you have school supplies, like notebooks, pens, and pencils. Make sure you bring things that will help you be more comfortable while you are outside as well, things like sunglasses, hats, sunscreen, gloves, and hot hands. It is extremely important to make sure and bring all the required documents you need as well, like your birth certificate, driver’s license, social security card, and proof of residency.

MAKE SURE YOU MEET ALL THE QUALIFICATIONS:

Checklist

Make sure you meet all of the qualifications for truck driving school. To come to Witte Bros. Truck Driving School you will need to make sure that:

  • You are at least 21 years old
  • You have no DWI or DUI in the last 3 years
  • You have no more than 3 moving violations within the last 3 years, with no more than 2 in the last 12 months
  • You have no more than 1 serious violation in the last 5 years
  • You have no license suspension in the last 3 years
  • You have a stable work history and good references from former employers
  • You can read and write English
  • You can pass a pre-employment DOT physical, DOT drug screen, and job functioning evaluation

And bring a positive attitude! There are going to be good days, and bad days while you are in truck driving school. Don’t give up! Make sure you have a positive attitude so you can learn as much as possible while you are in truck driving school.
