The CVSA’s Operation Safe Driver Program was created to help reduce the number of crashes, deaths and injuries involving large trucks, buses and passenger vehicles due to unsafe driving behaviors.

The theme surrounding the 2019 Operation Safe Driver Week is “Late won’t kill you, speeding will,” meaning that law enforcement throughout North America will be putting an emphasis on speeding violations. In addition to speeding, law enforcement will also be keeping a close eye on other dangerous driving habits as well.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Results from 2018

Last year’s initiative resulted in an estimated 42,000 commercial vehicle inspections while 16,909 passenger vehicle drivers and 1,908 commercial motor vehicle drivers were issued citations for speeding. In addition, 17 commercial motor vehicle drivers and 714 passenger vehicle drivers were cited for driving too fast for the conditions.

The top five citations issued were for violations of state and local laws (6,008 citations), speeding (1,908), failing to use a seat belt (1,169), failure to obey a traffic control device (754) and using a handheld phone (262).[/vc_column_text][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”80″][image_with_animation image_url=”621″ alignment=”” animation=”None” border_radius=”none” box_shadow=”none” max_width=”100%”][divider line_type=”No Line” custom_height=”80″][vc_column_text]

Just Remember…

Late won’t kill you, speeding will.

Drivers’ actions in terms of speeding, contribute to 94% of all traffic crashes based on a report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2015 Traffic Safety Facts report.

According to CVSA President, Jay Thompson with the Arkansas Highway Police, ““For more than two decades, speeding has been involved in nearly one-third of all motor vehicle fatalities.” He also said that the CVSA will continue to educate the public on the dangers of speeding.
