This roadcheck occurs annually and focuses on a variety of category violations with an emphasis on steering and suspensions during this year’s checks. The International Roadcheck is believed to be the biggest program that targets commercial motor vehicles in the world. While Witte does not travel out of the contiguous 48 states, this program is a CVSA program that involves the FMCSA plus several other safety programs out of Canada and Mexico.

In 2018, a total of 67,603 roadside inspections were completed. Out of the Level 1 inspections, 21.6% were place out of service and the final driver out-of-service rate was 3.9% out of all the inspections. From these checks, 43.7% of the out-of-service conditions were for hours of service violations.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

What to Expect

Each inspection has 37 steps that includes an exam of driver operating requirements and vehicle fitness. In the 72-hour inspection period, most checks that will occur will be Level 1 Inspections. However, inspectors are also able to conduct a Level 2 walk-around driver and vehicle inspection, Level 3 driver, credential and admin inspection or a Level 4 vehicle-only inspection.

Over the entirety of this roadcheck marathon it is estimated that about 17 trucks and buses are inspected every minute in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Total, there have been 1.6 million roadside inspections during the event since it began in 1988.

While steering and suspension components are always an element of roadside inspections, it is always best to double-check before hitting the road. The CVSA is focusing on those parts specifically this year to highlight how important they are to overall highway safety while driving.

Drive safe out there and keep an eye out for these inspections from June 4-6!
